Gestern abend:

Das "1. Meisterkonzert"
in der St. Dinoysius-Kirche Kelkheim

mit Ansgar Schlei - Domorganist in Wesel -
an der Kelkheimer Concerto 469 CC!

Das vielseitige Programm stellte sowohl das herausragende künstlerische Können des Interpreten als auch die hervorragende Klangqualität der Concerto 469 CC -
Physis-Orgel!
Das Konzert war mit ca. 70 Zuhörern gut besucht.
Etwas schade, daß sich außer "Weidenpfeife" und meiner Wenigkeit keine Forumsmitglieder blicken ließen...

Die vom Kelkheimer Organisten
Stephan Paxmann mit viel Engagement organisierte "Meisterkonzert"- Reihe,
die zeigt, daß inzwischen auch etablierte Organisten bereit sind, auf digitalen Instrumenten zu konzentrieren, findet ihre Fortsetzung

am Mittwoch, den 22.6.2022, um 19:00 Uhr

mit dem renommierten Konzertorganisten

Prof. Christian Schmitt, u.a. Nachfolger
des großen Ben van Oosten in Rotterdam
als Professor,

der an der Kelkheimer Concerto 469 CC mit einem sehr interessanten und vielseitigen Programm aufwarten wird!

This is abductive reasoning, in which the major premise is evident but the minor premise and therefore the conclusion only probable.

Are famous organists really willing to play concerts on digital organs too, by intentionally and consciously suppressing the historical and artistic "value gap" between pipes and binary code, or are they driven by necessity and general scarcity?

For the right amount of money, I could sing the yodel naked in public too, but this does not mean that I like to do it.

Actually I do experience, that it is not money at all I am talking about with the organists (except the French ones…), but ALL of the contacts were happy to supported the IDEA of setting up organ concerts of high quality in a smaller church with a nice instrument, to attract people who usually do not go to an organ concert as well as getting more young people interested in organ playing. Nobody complained or neglected to play because of too little money (again, except french contacts, which is the reason I look for other musicians).
And even if some feedback of them is, that not everything sounds like a pipe organ, they are surprised by other sounds of the instrument, which is a nearly perfect authentic sound.

So overall, and that‘s what I do these days as well, I do not apologize that it is not a pipe organ but I emphasize the best solution for the congregation and a large instrument, making a lot of literature being played possible. Digital does not remain an important issue once played.

Und danke Bernhard für Deine wohlwollende Nachricht zum ersten Meisterkonzert :-) Ich fand es auch klasse und es gab von den Besuchern viel positives Feedback und reges Interesse. Von den Besuchern waren bestimmt 40 Personen dabei, die ich noch nie vorher gesehen hatte. Das heisst, wir sprechen wirklich neue Gruppen an, die bisher nicht bei uns waren. Und ich bin fast sicher, dass das nächste Konzert auf die 100 Leute geht, weil die ersten Erfahrungen jetzt rumgetragen werden. Bspw. war die Vorsitzende des hiesigen Kulturvereins dabei und will nun mit der Reihe partnern, und ebenso explizit auch ein Kinder-Konzert an der Orgel aufsetzen.

Daher freue ich mich, dass der Start schon mal vielversprechend ist. Ich wünsche mir, dass wir dieses Grundinteresse etwas halten können.

Also bis spätestens zum 22.6. wieder :-)

Dear Stephan,

my post was intentionally provocative and I hoped to start an objective discussion on the matter. De facto, Bernhard drew a generalising inference that triggered all my alarm bells. In an academic environment, every statement must be supported by evidence. Evidence related to a single case can, in no way, support a general pattern.

Your initiative of organ concert is undoubtedly worth of mention and praise. I firmly believe that having a well-known organist will not attract new or young people to the concerts, it will attract just a reduced number of fans of that specific performer. The successor of Ben van Oosten (put in this way) is an attraction by proxy, and will draw (maybe?) those who know who Ben van Oosten is, so this can not be the bridge to the general public. On the other hand, something interesting and innovative - like Couperin's mass accompanied by plain chant - was something certainly interesting and uncommon. Therefore, I think it is not so much about "who" plays but "what and how" it is played and how much this can establish a link (an attract) people who are usually not going to an organ concert, whether they are young or mature. The package is the key here, not the person who hands it over to the customer.

I am sure that not only some French organists are all about the money. And I am also sure that some of the purest stars in the organ firmament would have no problem to play a private concert on a digital instrument if good money is granted and "privacy" provided. But this does not mean that the world is changing.

If you had bought a pipe organ instead, would you have had to emphasise that it is "the best solution for the congregation and a large instrument, making a lot of literature being played possible", over a digital one? I don't think so. So to me this still sounds like an excusatio non petita.

It is important that, within our circle of influence, we make the best we can to enrich ourselves, our community, and the world. The type of instrument (pipe or digital) that is used for this purpose is totally irrelevant. Still, the hypothesis that the organ world is changing in this direction still lacks statistically relevant evidence and, therefore, is null.

Liebe Orgelfreunde,

am kommenden MITTWOCH Abend, den 22. Juni um 19:30 Uhr findet das 2. MEISTERKONZERT an der vier-manualigen Orgel in Kelkheim, St. Dionysius statt. Christian SCHMITT, Orgelprofessor in Rotterdam (Nachfolger von Ben van Oosten) spielt ein Feuerwerk auf der Orgel. Herzliche Einladung dabei zu sein und die Gloria Concerto 469 CC mit einem der wirklich ganz grossen Organisten unserer Zeit zu hören!

Anbei 2 Zeitungsartikel (die ich auch weiterverwenden darf - Gruss ans Copyright ;-) ) mit weiteren Infos.

ein weiteres Mal "Chapeau" für das Programm und für die Künstler, die Du an Deinem "Elektronium" - wie es ein Orgelprofessor während unseres Forumstreffens letztens mal wieder despektierlich nannte - begrüßen kannst.
