For Sonus 40/45 owners
hello!
To all the owners of Sonus 40 and 45 (and partly Sonus 60/70 and Ouverture), I ask you a small favor.
You should check a small thing.
I ask you if you can listen, from the left and right front speakers under the apron, the hiss noise (each channel, left and right, has two loudspeakers: a tweeter and a midrange, listen both).
There is no need to disassemble the speaker cloth, you just need to put your ear close to the speakers (the amplification is activated at the end of the software loading at power on).
Let me know if you notice that the left channel has an "irregular" hiss and/or that varies over time.
Obviously I am talking about very weak noises..
Thank you very very much
#2 RE: For Sonus 40/45 owners
Hi Clemens, thanks for your help.
However, the noises I am referring to are really very very weak (especially this irregularity); it is very difficult to notice unless you put your ear close to the speaker. From a seated position I would say it is impossible to notice.
I will also explain the reason for this request.
I noticed (just by chance while I was kneeling trying to recover a pencil that had fallen into the pedalboard) that the left channel of the Sonus 40 emits a hiss that is a bit irregular, so I also checked the other channels, and this behavior (I repeat, barely perceptible) was present only on the left channel.
As a counter-test I tried to listen to the same noise in the Sonus 60 (which has two more channels under the apron) and bingo! Curiously, the same identical irregular hiss is always present on one of the two left channels!
Initially I thought of electrolytic capacitors in the amplifier that were starting to "tire", but the coincidence of the exact same phenomenon, in the same left channel in two different instruments made me suspect that it could also be some normal behavior due to the circuitry of the project. So, before spending a few hours replacing electrolytic capacitors, I wanted to be sure that this phenomenon is present only in my instruments, otherwise I can think that it is a normal behavior and save myself several hours of work..
Thank you!

#5 RE: For Sonus 40/45 owners

Hallo zusammen,

I'm afraid I haven't explained myself well.
The hiss coming from the speakers is always present in any organ; it's the normal, faint hiss generated by amplifiers, and it's faintly audible from a seated position. It's normal.
I'm referring to another type of (small) anomaly.
The hiss emitted by the left channel is different (not louder, but different).
While the noise in the right channel is normal, in the left it sounds more like "frying oil."
To hear this, you need to place your ear close to the speaker.
I'd be very grateful if you could do a little test (Just out of curiosity, anyone who has a Unico can try it too! The amplifier is the same!)
Hi ahlborn,
the phenomenon present in your instrument cannot be heard in my Physis organ (modified P235, but presumably the same amplifiers as in your Sonus). Me, my wife and a friend only hear the 'normal' hiss.
That 'frying oil' sound could possibly be a bad connection somwhere? I once had suddenly a very, very loud 'frying oil' sound (or maybe better described as a 'crackling sound') when switcching on my organ - it turned out to be only a bad connection in the on/off button.

Thanks PM!
I'm sure it's not a poorly connected cable.
It's more likely that it's some electrolytic capacitor starting to lose capacitance and perhaps increasing ESR.
However, it seemed really strange to me that the exact same problem occurred simultaneously on two instruments in the exact same channel; it's truly a strange coincidence. So I thought it might be a behavior present in all instruments.

Hi Ahlborn,
I have checked the left channel of my Sonus 40. However, I could not recognise any kind of strange hiss, as you reported, even with the internal volume set to the maximum value. Both channels, left and right, sound equal, i.e. no strange "frying oil" sound is coming from the left channel. FYI, I have purchased my Sonus in 2018.
Hope this helps,
Wolfgang

Hello Ahlborn,
I also couldn´t hear any irregular "sounds"
Best regards
